Born and raised in Virginia, Pastor Jon’s call to ministry was formed within the context of his college days at The University of Virginia. Though a Christian since he was a young child, his involvement and participation with the Campus Crusade for Christ, especially a summer spent in New York City working with their Here’s Life inner city ministry, began the process of considering the pastoral vocation. These experiences and training were used by God to develop a heart to see the gospel of grace proclaimed rightly in word and deed. Through his involvement with Trinity Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Charlottesville, VA, his heart and calling were directed towards ministry in the church. His time as an intern on Carthage, Mississippi and his subsequent ministry in Starkville, Mississippi further developed his particular sense of call.
MINISTRY AT WESTMINSTER:
Pastor Jon, also referred to as PJ by the church’s youth, has been serving Westminster since 2005, organizing our community groups and family ministries. While Jon takes great delight in sharing the gospel truth from the pulpit, he is also deeply involved in the community and life of the members of Westminster. As the pastor of Spiritual Formation, Jon pours into the lives of Westminster’s families: shepherding, teaching, leading, and praying. From serving communion and having the privilege of baptizing the infants of Westminster, to running around with the covenant kids on Sunday nights and sharing meals with people; Pastor Jon truly takes joy in practicing the kind of community we as believers need.
Jon and Rachel met during their time serving together with CRU, and were married in 1994. They have seven children: Anne Michal (20, TAMU class of 2019), Elizabeth (18), Emma (15), Jack (14), Knox (10/27/05 – 4/23/07), Creed (9), and Janey Kate (7). Rachel homeschools the five youngest children, while also teaching Math and Science part time at One Day Academy. When not at the office, Pastor Jon spends his time reading, playing guitar, reading, wrangling his kids, and reading more. He loves trivia, music, sports, mysteries, and drawing parallels between The Chronicles of Narnia and the gospel story.
